Essex Secret Monitor Awarded Prestigious Research Prize

W Bro Gerald Reilly to Present Paper at Quatuor Coronati Lodge

Congratulations to W Bro Gerald Reilly, PGStB, who has been awarded The Norman B Spencer Prize by Quatuor Coronati Lodge for his paper entitled “The Victorian Urbanisation of Harwich: the Role and Contribution of Freemasons in Particular”. The prize was founded to encourage and recognise masonic research scholarship. Submissions for it are considered, although not always awarded, annually by an academic sub-committee of Quatuor Coronati Lodge, which is the Premier Lodge of Masonic Research.

W Bro Gerald’s prize was presented last November in the Quatuor Coronati Lodge;
R Wy Bro Michael Singleton, PGSR was in attendance and took great pleasure in witnessing Gerald’s success. The paper will be presented to the full Quatuor Coronati Lodge on 16th February. A copy of the paper is available for members of the Lodge prior to the lecture after which there is an interrogation by the members to which, the lecturer is expected to provide a robust defence of his thesis. It is subsequently published in “Ars Quatuor Coronatum”.

The meetings of Quatuor Coronati are open to all English Constitution recognised Freemasons so there is an opportunity for any of our Essex Secret Monitors to attend should they so wish.

W. Bro. Gerald has generously donated his prize of £200 to the Essex OSM Provincial Benevolent Fund.
